Wave Music Awards celebrating musical excellence in Beijing

The Wave Music Awards took place in Beijing on Thursday, recognizing musicians across seven categories. Organized by Tencent Music Entertainment Group, a prominent online music platform in China, the event showcased over 10 groups of musicians performing at a gala on the same day.

Spanning a period of three months, the Wave Music Awards selected music works from a pool of over 500 albums and nearly 10,000 songs released in 2023.

Notable highlights of the event included Yuan Yawei, known by her stage name Tia Ray, clinching the award for Best Female Singer, while JJ Lin secured the title of Best Male Singer. The coveted Album of the Year award was bestowed upon Faith Yang for her album Flow.

In the realm of songwriting, Dou Jingtong's original composition Monday was honored as the Best Pop Song of the Year, while Chinese rock band Young Drug's track Flower earned them the Best Rock Song of the Year award. Singer-songwriter Zhang Weiwei's song Yongfeng Street was recognized as the Best Folk Song of the Year.

Moreover, the Wave Music Awards spotlighted musicians and their works featuring Chinese dialects, with Hong Kong singer-songwriter Lowell Lo's Together as One securing the title of Best Cantonese Album of the Year. The event served as a platform to celebrate musical diversity and excellence within the industry.
