The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra recently wrapped up its tour across the Chinese mainland with a mesmerizing concert on May 18 at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, conducted by the orchestra's principal guest conductor, Yu Long.
The concert commenced with enchanting music pieces by Chinese composer Bao Yuankai, including Little Running River, Through the Western Pass, and Can You Guess What Flower It Is, drawn from Bao's evocative collection Chinese Sights and Sounds, inspired by traditional Chinese folk melodies. The orchestra also showcased Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, featuring cellist Wang Jian, and Rimsky-Korsakov's evocative masterpiece Scheherazade.
