The 2024 Hunan Satellite TV and Mango TV Spring Festival Gala was broadcast live at 7:30 pm, on Feb 3, via Hunan Satellite TV, Mango TV, and Mango TV International app.
This year’s gala brought ordinary people to the spotlight, including a short film that presents the lives of people from all walks of life working in Hunan province.
Mission commander of Shenzhou XVII Tang Hongbo, born in Hunan province, along with his parents, was invited to the gala to share their stories, as a tribute to Chinese astronauts.
Innovative productions were staged, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese cultural forms, including dance drama, painting, cultural heritage and poetry.
A show combining onstage performances and outdoor footage took the audience on a journey through Hunan’s sightseeing spots, and an excerpt from Siji Ge (Song of Four Seasons), a dance drama that won China’s top national award for dancing, the Lotus Award, presented the fervor and faith of young people from Hunan in the 1930s.
In an innovative poetry show, actor Luo Yunxi interacted with six renowned poets through the use of computer graphics. With poetry, music and dance, the program presented not only the beauty of classical poetry, but also the sublimity of natural landscapes.
Collaborating with Hunan Museum, the gala also staged a song and dance program themed on the Belt and Road Initiative. Actress Tan Songyun and actor Xu Weizhou took the audience to Tongguan kiln in Changsha, Hunan’s capital, 1,000 years ago and presented the cultural elements along the ancient Silk Road routes.
