Defined lines
The gongbi style of classical Chinese paintings account for an important part of the collection at the National Art Museum of China. A selection of them showcasing its evolution is now on display at the Beijing museum until May 25. Gongbi paintings refer to the use of meticulous brush strokes to define the outlines of the subjects and also often features vivid colors. The style shows the traditions of classical Chinese paintings that focus on precise drawing lines and portray the spirit of things. On display are paintings of important figures, landscapes, flora and fauna by ancient painters from as early as the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and modern-day artists.
